About the Campaign
Graham Platner for U.S. Senate is building a bold, people-powered campaign to win in Maine and help reshape the future of our democracy. This campaign will be energetic, disciplined, and values-driven—focused on real issues, real people, and real solutions.
We are seeking a Communications Director to lead all aspects of campaign messaging, media, and narrative strategy during a critical election cycle.
This is a dynamic, high-impact opportunity for an experienced political communicator who wants to shape a statewide race from the ground up and help elect a U.S. Senator.
The Role
The Communications Director will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that advances the campaign’s message, elevates the candidate’s voice, and operates effectively in a fast-moving political environment.
This role reports directly to the Campaign Manager and works closely with the candidate, senior staff, consultants, and coalition partners.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute the campaign’s overall communications and messaging strategy
Serve as the primary point of contact for press and media inquiries
Pitch and place earned media, including print, radio, TV, and digital outlets
Draft and edit speeches, press releases, op-eds, statements, talking points, and rapid-response materials
Oversee digital messaging coordination in partnership with digital staff and consultants
Prepare the candidate for interviews, debates, and public appearances
Track news cycles, opposition messaging, and political developments
Help shape narrative strategy across paid, earned, and owned media
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience as a Communications Director or in a senior communications role on a political campaign, in elected office, or at an advocacy organization
Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex policy into clear, compelling language
Demonstrated success placing earned media and building relationships with reporters
Strong strategic thinking paired with the ability to execute quickly and effectively
Sound judgment, discretion, and strong political instincts
Ability to work collaboratively while taking ownership of major responsibilities
Commitment to the values and goals of the campaign
